Bandai Teasing New Dragon Ball Z Video Game With Countdown?

Bandai Namco and Toei Animation launch a Dragon Ball Z teaser countdown site, prompting speculation that a new game or film announcement may be imminent.

Now that Dark Souls 3 is in millions of gamers’ hands, it’s probably time for Bandai Namco to move onto the next big thing that doesn’t involve swords and shields. With the launch of a brand new website, it appears that publisher’s next big thing involves going back to a certain long-running and beloved anime franchise: Dragon Ball Z.

Bandai Namco and Toei Animation recently partnered up to launch the Dragon Ball Z teaser website “Fly Through Time“, though what is being teased is anyone’s guess at the moment. At the time of writing, the website only contains a rotating set of images taken from the franchise’s long history, and a countdown clock that’s set to go off at 6 AM PT, May 17.

This rotating set of images are primarily stills and posters that have been taken from all the Dragon Ball Z films released during the series’ 30 year history – including the most recent Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F – which suggests that a new film is in the works. However, some pieces of Dragon Ball Z video game artwork have been spotted between all these film stills, and given that Bandai Namco is the publisher of many Dragon Ball Z games, a brand new game announcement is also certainly within the realm of possibility.

Taking into account the involvement of renowned Japanese studio, Toei Animation, as well as Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima revealing that the company intends on producing anime releases for its IPs, perhaps the announcement could even be some sort of combined Dragon Ball Z film and video game release.

Should this countdown clock indeed reveal a brand new game, this will be the second Dragon Ball Z title to be announced this year. Just a few months ago, Bandai Namco revealed that it was working on a new Nintendo 3DS Dragon Ball Z RPG game titled Dragon Ball: Project Fusionwhich will notably feature a fusion between Goku and Brolly.

While we can speculate, we still have no idea what is going to be announced, and the only thing we can say for certain is that it probably won’t involve Goku taking on the cast of Street Fighter 2. We’ll keep everyone posted on this mysterious countdown, and what will be revealed on May 17.
