Ben Wilson (‘PlayStation’ Magazine Editor) told Tech Radar that there is possibility that the specs for the upcoming ‘PlayStation 5′ is not what we may think it will be. With the growth of downloadable games, there is possibility that the upcoming ‘PlayStation 5′ will be a streaming service. He added,

“Steam on PC has taught us that disc drives are becoming less and less necessary, but I can’t see them being phased out completely for a while yet. People love their boxed products, and ‘experts’ have been predicting the ‘imminent’ demise of the CD for more than 20 years. Remind me how that one has turned out? There will always be those who prefer special editions and sexy packaging to invisible downloads, and it’s those guys and girls who’ll ensure disc drives live on within gaming in some form.”

However, according to Emmett Shear (Executive at Twitch-a streaming service), there might actually be no ‘PlayStation 5′ or ‘Xbox Two’ in the future. This is due to shorter shelf life of present consoles.

According to Attack of the Fan Boy reported that Sony has already started working on the upcoming ‘PlayStation 5′. This is after Sony has posted a job post on their official website looking for a developer to work a ‘next generation’ console. In the post they said;

“We have an exciting opportunity at Sony Computer Entertainment of America (PlayStation). We seek a senior game programmer to assist us in developing a game used for RD purposes related to our next generation gaming system. For someone passionate about gaming this is a very rare opportunity. After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply!”

If this is true; it is also believed that the upcoming ‘PlayStation 5′ won’t be released until 2020. So, if you’re planning to buy a ‘PlayStation 4′ it still safe to say that your new console will still have a shelf life of 5 years.
