Women Play Video Games And Own More Gaming Consoles

Believe it or not, women play video games and own more gaming consoles in the USA.

The general consensus shows that more and more women are playing video games, but that is just the beginning. Women are crazy for gaming, they just tend to shut up about it because dudes on the internet can, will be, and frequently are well known for being patriarchal jackasses. Basically men who not only refuse to even believe that women are capable of playing video games, but these same men also believe that those who do are automatically inferior to men who play video games.

A  recent study on video gaming demographics, the truth about women has finally come out.

There is a significant gender split in those who label themselves as gamers; 56 % of respondents who identified as gamers were men, while 44 % were women. The research samples include those in all the broad age categories, including those from children to the elderly. Very nearly half of the people who play games are women. And the numbers were actually closer than that sounds.

According to another new study also, more women than men own gaming consoles in the United States. Over 40 % of Americans own a game console in their households. Interestingly 42 % of those respondents said they owned video game systems such as Xbox and PlayStation, but more importantly they were mostly women.

Only 37 % were men. This particular research focused on those over 18 in age.

Overall statistically, the two groups of around 950 people, leaves a margin of error of around 3 % total. There is the automatic assumption is that these women are buying consoles for their kids, but that’s a strange assumption, when the same could be said for the men who responded. There are many, many women who play video games, and that the idea of the medium existing as a boys club is flawed. That is the perception, and it’s something that needs changing.

The explains :

Women play games, they’re just less likely to chat about them on forums and websites. Seeing the sorts of comments that get bandied about, I can’t say I blame them. There’s a big difference between somebody who plays games, and somebody who’s a video game enthusiast.

If you were wondering why there’s such a big deal about representation in games at the moment, this is a big reason, and it’s probably prudent that game publishers do make their games more representative, or they risk cutting out half of their potential market.

Well tough love suckers, that’s what you need some from your lady friends. Because they are all gamers.
